Type the word ‘menopause’ into Google, and you’ll find things like…

…Hot flashes, mood swings, brain fog, and more.

Dripping sweating out of nowhere, suddenly crying at the dinner table, forgetting how to pronounce the word subpoena — these aren’t exactly positive traits of menopause.

But what if I told you there were some things to be excited about?

I know it sounds crazy, but menopause can usher you into your BEST ERA YET. Just check out this quote from Margaret Mead, an anthropologist who coined the term “post-menopausal zest” in the 1950s:

“There is no greater power in the world than  the zest of a postmenopausal woman.”

To say Margaret was ahead of her time is an understatement. Could you imagine how empowered you’d feel if you embodied HER outlook on menopause?

Well, you CAN, and I’m going to talk about HOW. Let’s dig into the GIFTS of the menopause journey.

🛑 No. More. Periods.

First, let’s talk about the obvious good things about menopause…

🩸 End of your period.

Even if you didn’t have painful or heavy periods, I’m sure you’ve been on your period during unwanted times, like vacation, your birthday, or a romantic weekend getaway. Periods can put a damper on the fun.

🚫 No risk of unplanned pregnancy.

No more worrying about getting pregnant! Without the possibility of conception, sex becomes more freeing and fun (especially when you know how to combat vaginal dryness and low libido too).

*Just make sure you’re completely done with your periods before you start throwing all caution to the wind. It’s still possible to get pregnant during perimenopause.

😌 Relief from menstrual symptoms.

Say goodbye to the cramps, breast tenderness, fatigue, and other symptoms from your monthly cycle. No more living your life according to the ebbs and flows of hormones throughout each month.

Of course, perimenopause might make your periods wonky for a few years, but once your period stops altogether, you’re FREE from the chains of a 28-day cycle!

Most women experience around 450 menstrual periods in their lifetime. 🤯The fact that you get to be DONE with periods is an exciting milestone.

But the end of having monthly periods isn’t the only positive thing about this time in your life.

There’s also often a renewed zest for life as you begin this new chapter.

🧠 The mental health benefits of menopause

In her New York Times bestseller, The Menopause Brain: New Science Empowers Women to Navigate the Pivotal Transition with Knowledge and Confidence, neuroscientist and groundbreaking Alzheimer’s researcher Dr. Lisa Mosconi shares the startling finding that postmenopausal women are generally happier than younger ones—and also happier than they were themselves before menopause.

DIVE DEEPER: Check out my interview with Dr. Mosconi where we talk about your brain during menopause!

Once you’ve accepted this life transition (that happens to ALL people with ovaries) and received help with reducing your symptoms…

…You can welcome this transition as a journey to FREEDOM.

Everything in your life has been about everything and everyone else: kids, spouse, family, friends, career. Now, it’s all about YOU (as long as you let it).

Without social milestones like marriage, career, and children, you get to experience freedom on a level you never have before. I know it can be destabilizing not to have a path set before you anymore but look at this era as a time to write your own script.

Plus, an increase in testosterone levels POST menopause can lead you to feel even more liberated from what others think of you—that’s a bonus!

📌 Remember: Menopause is a transition, not a disease

There are 34 symptoms of menopause, and chances are, you’ll experience at least some of those symptoms. But that doesn’t mean menopause is forever, nor do you need to suffer through it!

While you might need to slow down a bit to address these symptoms, remember that this transition is temporary and will eventually pass.

Once you get help for the physical symptoms of menopause…

You can move on to embrace this new era of life that is bolder, fearless, curious, fresh, exciting, and inspiring…

And a SELF who is stronger, wiser, sexier, and better than before.

Women spend about 40% of their lives in post-menopause! That’s a lot more life to live. You’re old enough to have some skills, expertise, and wisdom but still young enough to live your life to the fullest.

If you can use this time to settle more deeply into who you are and embrace your newfound freedom, this can be one of the most beautiful times in your life.

The menopause manual that cuts through the chaos so you can take back control of your body, your confidence, and your life.
